to purchase a MacBook Pro or not

I’m completely up in the air at this point.  See, I want the new MacBook Pro but I don’t want to spend all that money for it.  I would like a newer, faster laptop that I can actually rely on (my MacBook is getting more and more sad as each day passes).  I want the bigger screen so I can show slideshows without people having to get up close and personal with the computer.  I’d like to be able to quickly edit and run multiple programs without the spinning wheel of death looming after every click.

My question is this… is the Pro worth it or do I stick with a higher end MacBook?  Any insight would be wonderful!

As long as the MacBook Pro is significantly more powerful, go with it. If you spend a lot of time waiting for progress bars, then your time is certainly worth the extra money. I just ran through the same calculation with my iMac. It’s great, but I tend to use multiple Adobe Creative Suite apps at one time, and I spend WAY too much time waiting. Time is money, and I need to be able to do more. I’ll be buying a Mac Pro at some point soon.

BTW, here’s an interesting article I read recently about Mac hardware and Photoshop performance: http://bit.ly/92R8f. It’s by John Nack, who is the product manager for Photoshop at Adobe.

    Good luck,

Thank you Andrew for your insight! I’ll take a look at the link right away. :) I was trying to do some reading on the new MacBook versus MacBook Pro yesterday and they are very similar. At the end of the article it said that the big difference is that the Pro would run faster and have a better performance and only the Pro’s would need something like that. So I’m certainly leaning towards it cause I know it would be SO handy to have especially because I do so much editing and post production stuff.

We’ll see…. It’s hard spending so much money in one lump sum when I do have a wonderful iMac and a so so MacBook ya know?

  2. Some good info here, I wasn’t expecting to land here and start reading but looks like I did! lol
