My photography

One size doesn’t necessarily fit all…

I’m a girl who loves road trips, friendships, and laughter.  Coffee, chocolate and baking cakes from scratch bring me joy.  To my eye, wildflowers sprinkling the rolling foothills are one of the most beautiful things in the world.  These things may make me seem ordinary but these things make me who I am. Life is good, it’s short, and I want to make it sweet.

I am Jen;  a photographer, a dreamer, a laugher, and a giver.

Let’s do lunch.

Jason and Jessica’s Tandem Bicycle Wedding | Fresno, CA

Jason & Jessica own a tandem bike. Living in Florida, riding their tandem, they decided to base their Fresno destination wedding on the things they love; the tandem bike and the color blue… and of course their love for one another, their friends, and their families.

Being from Fresno, CA it made sense to get married there and Jessica’s best friends family offered their backyard to host the wondrous event. It was perfect. Jason and Jessica had the loveliest mismatched table settings and chairs, their flowers were light and gorgeous, and the wedding party looked absolutely stunning and were a ton of fun! Everything was perfect. From the croquet in the front yard to the homemade photo booth in the backyard. From the tandem bicycle cake topper to the wishing tree where their guests hung customized book marks. The whole day was sewn together with unity, gorgeous elements, and the strongest bond any couple could have, love and laughter.

Angie and I had such a fun time shooting this wedding! Jason and Jessica, thank you so much for having Jennifer Eileen capture such an incredible day. I am honored to have been able to capture all of your amazing little details and sweet moments that you two had. You guys are absolutely wonderful! May your marriage be filled with love, laughter, and lots of bike riding!

I was completely amazed at what Jason & Jessica accomplished from so far away!  Don’t you just LOVE her shoes?  Her dress?!  Her jewelry?!!!  It’s so beautiful.  She has really good taste, that is very apparent.

Jessica’s best friend and Maid of Honor, Claire, grew up in the home where the wedding took place.  Claire’s mom also got married there and has a picture of her walking down these stairs in her wedding dress.  Seriously, it’s such a privilege to be able to capture this moment in time that correlates with that moment in history.

I love the wishing tree!  The dragon drawing that Jason is holding up was created by his brother/best man for the tree.  That guy is so talented!

Brown Bunny Flowers really did a phenomenal job with this wedding.  Everything was gorgeous from the flowers lining the aisle, to the tiny vases hanging above the ceremony background, to the girls bouquets!  They truly were breathtaking.

I love Jason and Jessica’s energy.  Come on, high fiving the guests on the walk down the aisle?!  So awesome.

The details of this wedding were, for lack of better words, perfect.  I love the small ampersand sign, the two J’s, and later you’ll see how gorgeous the reception site was with the cake, the table settings, and loads of other beautiful things!

We laughed a lot together.  I really can’t tell you how much that I loved shooting the Gravano’s and their bridal party.  They are all just. so. awesome!

Of course they had a bike!  And Jessica mastered it while wearing her wedding dress and high heels!  No bikes our outfits were hurt in these images.

Jason & Jessica made their own photo booth by setting up a camera, getting a remote, and putting chalkboard in there for their guests to write on.  After the wedding they downloaded everything and uploaded them online to share with all of their guests.  So brilliant.

I had to share a picture of the hosts.  They are so, so, great!

Did you see the cake topper?  Please take note, it’s a bicycle with their names in the front tire!  Super, ridiculously, cute and 150% perfect.

I fell in love with the reception and all of it’s details.  Look at the chairs, the flowers, the settings, the calligraphy, the table numbers, the glassware… oh goodness, so lovely.

And they danced, partied, laughed, and enjoyed every moment of their wedding!

Recently I purchased a new iPhone (you saw the short video about that right?). I am so thankful I made this jump. Now I don’t have to carry around my silly iPod and find wireless internet to retrieve clients phone numbers from my online management account. Life just got a little easier with it (and I’m an Apple junkie but so what!).

Anyhow, one of my favorite things about my phone is the camera. I’ve never been one to lug around my giant camera to take pictures while out hiking but now I can have my nifty little thing in my back pocket to document this and that.

One of my favorite cameras I use (cause you know, you can download different camera apps and not be limited to the one that automatically comes on your phone) is Hipstamatic. I paid $2 bucks for it and I’m lovin’ it. I can change lenses, film, and flashes to get the look I desire. (In all actuality, I just shake the phone which causes everything to switch to a random lens, film, and flash… it’s pretty sweet.) I think it’s quite fun and I just had to share about it.

So that’s that. Here’s the website so you can learn more about them and I attached a few images from my Labor Day Weekend in the mountains at Hume Lake.

Enjoy!

If you use Hipstamatic, I would love to see some images you’ve created!  Or, if anyone knows of a gem of an iPhone camera do share.

Tim & Aykui | Destination Wedding | Monterey, CA

Tim & Aykui met on eHarmony a few years back. Because I met my boyfriend via eHarmony, Aykui (pronounced Hi Queen without the ‘n’ at the end) and I immediately had things to talk about. She is level headed, cute as can be, sincere, smart, and has the biggest, most genuine smile I’ve ever seen. I truly have enjoyed building out friendship before her wedding.

I digress, this post is supposed to be about them two and I’ve turned it into a post about my friendship wit the bride! Oopsie. Back on track now…

This couple planned their Monterey wedding all the way in Texas. How they pulled something so beautiful off with such lovely details I’ll never know! I’m so glad I get to show off their wedding now.

I really loved the sign that Aykui had made. It’s beautiful and I’m sure is now a piece of art in their home!

Isn’t her dress lovely?! And her shoes were perfect. She did have two sets of shoes, one for the ceremony and one for the reception.

I really did love the rings. And doesn’t Aykui look phenomenal in her dress?!

Breathtaking church right? It’s elegant, warm, and has an old charm to it.

I loved their little wooden table markers that said Mr. and Mrs. on it. You’ll see them again with the gorgeous yellow flower centerpieces during the reception.

The flowers were beautiful! I really do love the yellow.

That mirror in the Bridal Room at the Perry House is one of the most lovely things I’ve seen. The whole suite up there is really remarkable.

Those bottle openers were awesome. If you can’t read it the tag says, “We Tied the Knot.”

Did you see the Mr. & Mrs. wooden table markers? So sweet!

The candy spread was so sweet, pun intended. It was bright, cheerful, and most importantly delicious.

I have to mention that the Perry House staff was one of the absolute best staffs I’ve had the opportunity to work with. It’s a gorgeous venue (newly renovated), delicious food, and filled with kind, easy going people. I highly recommend this place! Highly, HIGHLY recommend.

That cake was beautiful… and so tasty. :)

I love this series of first dance pictures. Tim & Aykui are so in love and perfect together. You can see it on their faces.

DNA Entertainment really rocked the house! The whole evening was a blast and everyone was on the dance floor gettin’ down. It was so much fun.

Tim & Aykui, you two are wonderful! Thank you for letting me photograph your wedding and for making all of the right choices for your wedding day to pull off such an amazing event! Many blessings to you both.

Brian and Jennifer met via good ol’ myspace.  Their story of how they met and their romance was hilarious! (They shared it with their wedding guests during the toasts at the end of the evening.)  Instead of sharing it, I’ll try and get Jennifer to share it with us so that I don’t tell any parts that I shouldn’t. :)

He’s Irish, she’s from California, their wedding was a celebration of who they are and their lives together.  Let me start by telling you this… Jennifer glows.  She glows when his name is mentioned.  She glowed when she saw herself in the mirror with her wedding dress on.  She glowed when she walked down the aisle with her eyes locked with his.  And it was then that I saw him glow.  When she was in his presence he was more then himself, he was complete.  Their love is tangible and wonderful.

I loved Jennifer’s jewelry. It was stunning and the red cases were classic, vintagey perfection.

I l.o.v.e. LOVE Jen’s wedding ring. It’s vintage circa 1915 and just breathtaking.

Check out her hair.  She got it done at Le Salon Cruz.  The style is so intricate, sleek, and absolutely gorgeous!

Something I loved is this Irish tradition.  After the ceremony the bride and groom stood in the back of the church and greeted each and every guest as they exited.  It was pretty awesome.  They literally exchanged words with everyone!  Pretty smart tradition if I should say so myself.

This bridal party is awesome.  The grooms sisters and his best man flew out from Ireland and they were so enjoyable!  In the group image below I told the bride and groom to kiss.  Problem was I didn’t specify who so one of the sisters (on the left) asked if everyone should be kissing.  I said sure, everyone kiss everyone and they all started laughing.  (Boy I’m a bad storyteller sometimes.  I promise, it really was funny when it happened.)

I love how well Brian and Jennifer fit together.  They truly are lovely.

Megan and Emily from Enjoy Events Co. helped Jennifer with the day of stuff.  They were (and are) absolutely awesome.  All the details were dealt with, everything was gorgeous, and the whole day ran so smoothly.  I tell you, having someone you trust who has good taste and is on your side is such a blessing on your wedding day.

Those mints that went on the tables after the guests enjoyed dinner, dessert, and toasts were absolutely delicious!  (Yes, I tried a few.)

Another brilliant thing about Irish weddings is the toasts.  Here is what Jen told me concerning the toasts, “Also to irish tradition, all the speaches are being done at the reception. I know that at american weddings, some of the speaches are done at the rehearsal dinner, but not so at the irish shindig! All the speaches are done after dinner, and people at the tables can bet on how long the speaches will go. I had never seen it before, but it is sooooo much fun…I even won once! $60 euros! Yeah baby!”

Brian and Jen, congratulations!  I loved being a part of such a special day and getting to spend it in San Fran with you two and the rest of your brilliant wedding party.

Kevin & Cayla tied the knot on one of the most beautiful days this valley has seen. It was absolutely perfect and everything was as the bride and groom dreamed it would be. They had the brightest colors, the largest, most genuine smiles, and everyone around was more than delighted to take part in such a special day.

I have a few favorite things that I’ll point out throughout this post… my first favorite, this next image.  Look at Cayla’s face.  She’s glowing, serene, and so genuinely in love.  The light, the location, and the deep admiration for one another just made this moment all the more special.

During the ceremony I loved when the best man and maid of honor surrounded Kevin & Cayla and prayed for them.  There was such peace and joy in their faces and a calmness that came over them.

This wedding party was fan-tabulous!  There were a lot of them but they were great to hang around.  Everyone was easy going and willing to do whatever for Kevin & Cayla.  I love that!

The rings.  Such a strong symbol of a marriage.  I will never get tired of seeing couples wedding rings because there is so much meaning in them and it shows their tastes a little bit.  I mean, would you wear a ring that you thought was ugly?  I wouldn’t either. :)

The location was out of this world!  Check out that sky… I’m telling you, it was beautiful!  Kevin & Cayla got married at a friends home; ceremony in one yard, reception in the other.  It was beautiful.

Congratulations Kevin & Cayla!  I’m excited to meet all of your babies because I know that Cayla wouldn’t be the woman she’s meant to be if she didn’t have children. :)   So get to it!
